On the third installment of the Two Man Roundtable, we talk about the unoriginality of Hollywood that is slowly eroding the film industry. We cover the history of remakes, some of the most egregious examples of remake culture gone bad, and catalogue all of the remakes and sequels that will be hitting theaters in the near future. For example, Tim Burton is going to be directing a live action Dumbo movie. Johnny Depp will be following in Eddie Murphy’s footsteps and will be playing every single character himself, except for Helena Bonham Carter who is going to be playing Timothy Q. Mouse. Ok, I made up that second part, but Burton really is directing a live action Dumbo movie.
We have some fun talking about the different levels of originality (or lack thereof) and how it applies to recent movies that have come out. We spend a good amount of time lamenting the remake of some our favorite movies, in particular Little Shop of Horrors, which comes as no surprise to anyone who listened to the episode where we recast it. Also, somehow, somebody somewhere thinks it’s a good idea to remake The Matrix without the Wachowskis. Of our close to 30 movies we’ve recast so far, more than half have either already been remade or is currently in the works to be remade. This episode is almost guaranteed to make you mad, if you aren’t already.
Thanks for listening, everyone! We’ll be dropping the final installment of the Two Man Roundtable on Wednesday. After that, we’ll be back with an all new movie to recast on Monday.
